We are just about to take the first step on an amazing journey to transform healthcare for the population we serve. We have had a vision for a modern, brand new hospital for many years and with the help of our patients, our people and the public, we are working to bring that vision to life. We are going to develop a building fit for the 21st Century with technology at its heart that will be an outstanding place to receive care and a fabulous place to work.
We have a team of experts working on the new hospital project, with our executive team, clinicians, operations people along with support from architects, healthcare planners and town planners to develop one of the largest capital projects in the NHS today.
Taking the lead for this fantastic opportunity for local people and the Princess Alexandra Hospital teams are Lance McCarthy, chief executive; Michael Meredith, director of strategy and estates and Dr Fay Gilder, medical director. Read more about these key members of the team below:
Lance McCarthy, chief executive, The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT)
Lance joined PAHT as chief executive in May 2017, moving from Hinchingbrooke Hospital where he was the chief executive officer (CEO) for nearly two years. Prior to this, he was the deputy CEO at North Middlesex Hospital for more than four years.
Lance began as an economics graduate and has a wealth of experience within his NHS career, spanning over 25 years. He has worked in acute hospitals in a variety of general, performance and strategic management roles across a range of different hospitals and is a trustee for NHS Providers. He is passionate about the NHS, healthcare and the provision of high quality care for all.
Michael Meredith, director of strategy and estates, The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT)
Michael joined PAHT in 2018. He is responsible for developing our clinical strategy, which includes how we work with our partners in the NHS and with other organisations to deliver the best possible services to our local population.
Michael brings a range of experience and expertise to PAHT, having started his career as a research scientist with a PhD in immunology and immunogenetics, led a technology development group at the University of Oxford and spent 14 years developing commercial and strategic healthcare services for a wide range of commissioners and providers across the UK and beyond. He is passionate about high quality care, delivered by a caring and compassionate workforce, to everyone who needs it.
Dr Fay Gilder, medical director, The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT)
Fay joined PAHT from Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CUHFT), where she was currently a consultant anaesthetist and the clinical director for improvement and transformation.
Fay is very much looking forward to working with all her new colleagues at PAHT to support the delivery of our ambitious plans as we move in to a new hospital.
